Summer Workshop Faculty Concerts and Other Events

Baroque, June 14 - 20     |     Medieval/Renaissance, June 30 - July 4     |     Recorder, July 19 - 25
Lecture series on English music, June 22 - 26

Every summer the San Francisco Early Music Society's summer workshops include faculty concerts and other events that are open to the public. The extraordinarily accomplished workshop faculty members, drawn from the Bay Area and across the nation, perform together in combinations that can rarely be heard anywhere else. In addition, the public is welcome to attend workshop lecture-demonstrations, student performances and theatre productions, and other special events. The Baroque and Medieval/Renaissance workshops are held at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park. The Recorder Workshop is located at St. Albert Priory in Oakland.

Tickets for all concerts and events are only available at the door.

BAROQUE WORKSHOP: Music in Italian Cities in the 17th and 18th Centuries

European music of the baroque era owes virtually everything to the poets, patrons, intellectuals and artists of Florence, Rome Venice, and even smaller centers like Mantua and Ferrara. The Italian approach to the expressive setting of text and the cultivation of vocal and instrumental virtuosity were universally influential. We would have no "classical" Western music without Monteverdi, Corelli, or the many important composers that worked under their influence.

All Baroque Workshop events take place at:

Sonoma State University
1801 E. Cotati Avenue
Rohnert Park, CA 94928
