Directors: Kati Kyme and William Skeen

New Esterházy Quartet

The New Esterházy Quartet offers historically informed perspectives on string chamber music of the Classical era. Participants will learn period-appropriate styles of articulation, bowing, fingering and phrasing. Workshop pitch will be at "Viennese," A=430hz and participants will have the opportunity to try Classical style bows and strings. In addition to the music of Mozart, Haydn, and Beethoven, we will explore the music of lesser-known, but equally-talented composers in our coachings, rehearsals, and informal performances. The workshop is open to all ages and all skill levels. Individuals and groups are welcome to apply!

Faculty

Kati Kyme, Violin and Director
Lisa Weiss, Violin

Venue

We are located on a quiet campus one block from the Rockridge BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) station in Oakland. St.Albert's Priory offers comfortable classrooms, private dorm rooms, a serene courtyard, and a beautiful church with splendid acoustics for our student and faculty concerts. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, we are secluded from the outside world yet only blocks away from our favorite coffee shops, restaurants, and grocery store in Oakland's Rockridge neighborhood.

We encourage participation from string players of all levels and ages! We also encourage the enrollment of pre-formed groups.

We look forward to seeing old friends, meeting new friends, and enjoying the best possible avocation: making music! As Anthony Martin once confessed in an interview for the SF Chronicle, "Performing quartets is a glorious opportunity to spend time uniting harmony and beauty. Perhaps this could be a model for how our society could operate."

We hope to see you this summer!
