Late-Breaking News for Singers

Dear Singers,

Handel's Dixit Dominus and Nisi Dominus will be performed by the chorus and orchestra at this year's Baroque Workshop. We will hold auditions ahead of time for the solo arias in these works. The auditions will be held in Berkeley June 12th, 2005. Those who are selected will have an opportunity to work with Jennifer Lane at a special masterclass on June 18, 2005.

We are holding these auditions before the workshop begins so that the arias can be learned ahead of time and won't be using too much of our valuable master class and ensemble time at the workshop itself. Our usual full program will be available to all singers - master classes in the morning, concentrating on repertoire you choose to bring; chorus and ensembles in the afternoon.

If you would like to attend the workshop and be considered for one of the Dixit Dominus or Nisi Dominus arias, send in the workshop registration form and then contact me. For this audition, prepare two Baroque arias, one lyrical and one florid. We would like to have one of your audition pieces taken from one of these two works by Handel. The music is available in libraries and is downloadable from www.cpdl.org. If you have not registered for the workshop, you can do so with the form on the website. If you do it soon, I will extend the May 1 deadline after which the tuition is raised. If money is an issue for you, check the financial aid box when you send in the form

If you want to be considered for a solo but are unable to attend the audition, let me know. If we are already familiar with your singing, you may not need to audition. We can also attempt to find an alternate date or you can send a tape or CD of your singing. (Please have it reach me no later than June 1, and send it to 1448 Josephine, Berkeley CA, 94703.)

We look forward to hearing from you.
