Because of the close relationship of dance and music during the Baroque, the SFEMS workshop has always sought to feature a close interaction between musicians and dancers.
Tangkao Tan, our dance instructor, offers daily instruction to dancers of all levels in which he covers technique, dance notation, and repertoire. Choreographies may be selected from simple for beginners in Baroque Dance to more challenging for intermediate and advanced participants. There will be opportunities for individual coaching and dancers are encouraged to bring choreographies which they would like to study.
This year again he will also offer the popular class for musicians. Musicians will learn some basic Baroque steps and dances, along with coordination, gesture, stance, and walks.
For our final workshop concert, Tangkao Tan has selected some dances from Rameau, and a passacaille by Handel arranged for 4 to 6 dancers which will include solos, duets, and a group dance.
Dancers are encouraged to get in touch with Tangkao Tan before the workshop (tanggao@gmail.com).
