SFEMS Baroque Music Workshop, June 14-20, 2009Introduction | Faculty Bios | Concerts | Master ClassesBaroque Concerts, 2009Music in Italian Cities in the 17th and 18th CenturiesEuropean music of the baroque era owes virtually everything to the poets, patrons, intellectuals and artists of Florence, Rome Venice, and even smaller centers like Mantua and Ferrara. The Italian approach to the expressive setting of text and the cultivation of vocal and instrumental virtuosity were universally influential. We would have no "classical" Western music without Monteverdi, Corelli, or the many important composers that worked under their influence.
