I am very happy to announce plans for the 2008 Music Discovery Workshop. We have been welcomed back by the Crowden Center for Music in the Community in Berkeley for the week of July 27 to August 1. Our schedule includes an evening orientation and faculty presentation on Sunday, classes from 9-3 Monday to Friday, and the theater project and student recital Friday evening, followed by a delicious potluck feast.
Several of our stellar faculty from 2007 will be with us again, joined by some old and new friends. Allison Rolls returns as our Theater Project Director, with exciting plans for an exploration of life in England through the eyes of Robin Hood and his merry men, and Maid Marian. Farley Pearce, member of the viol consort Sex Chordae, will return to teach viola da gamba and cello. Carla Moore, member of Philharmonia Baroque and the American Bach Soloists, will teach the violin classes and direct the band again. Louise Carslake, member of the Farallon Recorder Quartet and Music's Recreation, joins us to teach the recorder classes, and Ron McKean, Artist-in-Residence at First Presbyterian Church in Berkeley and keyboardist extraordinaire, will return after a few years' absence as harpsichord faculty. Our beloved former director, Katherine Heater, will join us in the afternoon to teach theory and ear training. We’ll play fun Renaissance outdoor games as usual. After-camp care can again be arranged by prior agreement with one of our assistants. This day camp for youth ages 7-15 is an exciting opportunity for your child to immerse him or herself in the music and culture of old England. I hope your child will be able to join us for a wonderful week of musical discoveries.
